How To Get Your Real Estate License in Maryland
Are you ready to begin your new career as a Maryland real estate agent? The CE Shop has everything you need to get started and set up for success.
Hi, I’m Erica with The CE Shop, here to tell you that getting your Maryland real estate license is as easy as following these six steps.
Step 1: Education
First-time licensee candidates in Maryland are required to take 60 hours of Pre-Licensing education. This coursework can be taken in person or online in a convenient do-at-your-own-pace format such as the program offered by The CE Shop.
Step 2: Course Final
After you complete all course materials, meet the minimum time requirement, and pass the practice exam, you must take a final exam. This exam consists of 110 questions and the minimum passing score is 70%.
This final exam has to be taken in the presence of a proctor, and you’ll need to schedule an appointment with a proctor in advance. Find out more about our online proctoring process by watching this video.
Step 3: Licensing Exam
Once you’ve passed your course final exam, you will next schedule, take, and pass your state licensing exam. The Maryland Real Estate Commission employs PSI to facilitate and administer the state licensing exam. The exam consists of a 90-minute National portion and a 30-minute State portion. For more information, please see the Maryland Candidate Handbook.
To start a new career in Maryland real estate, you must have a broker sponsor you through the licensing process and to provide you with a launchpad for your new career. This broker will be your career and education mentor, and will provide you with an inside view of the day-to-day operations of being a real estate agent. It’s important to find a good fit when picking a broker to work with because it’s a key factor to becoming successful.
Step 5: Application
You’ll next file an application for licensure. The Maryland Real Estate Commission requires that licensees complete an online application on the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation website.
Step 6: Your License
Once the application is approved, your Maryland real estate salesperson license will be issued. With your new license, a great mentor, and the Maryland real estate knowledge gained from your Pre-Licensing education, you’re now ready to begin your new career.
